27 Foods IgE + Total IgE (Serum)-US BioTek Kit:
Note: This is a test kit that will be mailed to you. It requires a blood draw. It is your responsibility to arrange the blood draw for your kit and payment of your specimen collection.
Fasting Required: No
Lab: US BioTek
Specimen: Serum
Results: Average processing time 7-10 business days
Note: Result turnaround times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Special Instructions: It is suggested that you maintain your usual dietary habits and consume a variety of foods when possible within a couple weeks prior to blood collections, unless advised otherwise by your healthcare practitioner. Avoid eating foods that may have potentially resulted in a previous adverse reaction and/or anaphylaxis, as secondary exposure may prove fatal.
Immunosuppresive drugs such as oral and intranasal corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone, beclomethasone, fluticasone, triamcinolone) and topical cortisone suspensions and creams, in addition to immune-modulating drugs, may affect test results for antibody assessment.
Total IgE measurement is unavailable for patients under 10 years of age.
Description: An IgE mediated allergic reaction is known as Type 1, or immediate hypersensitivity. Symptoms typically occur soon after exposure to the allergen, and range from mild to severe - they can even be life-threatening.
US BioTek runs all IgE panels on a sophisticated FDA-approved immunoassay analyzer that utilizes enzyme-amplified chemiluminescence technology. Chemiluminescence provides lower detection limits than conventional ELISA, making it particularly suitable for IgE detection, which can be hard to detect due to its short half-life compared to other immunoglobulins.
The 27-Food panel assesses IgE response to 27 foods, carefully selected for their potential reactivity and their relevance to modern diets.
