Description: Galectin-3, a member of the galectin family of proteins, is a sign that has been shown to play an important role in heart failure. Only a portion of heart failure patients have elevated levels of galectin-3. However, clinical studies using galectin-3 test have confirmed that patients with elevated galectin-3 levels have worse forecast in terms of death or risk of hospitalization than comparable patients with low or normal levels of galectin-3.
