Mini Vitamin Panel:
Fasting Required: 10-12 hours preferred, but not required
Specimen: Blood
Lab: Quest Diagnostics
Results: Average processing time 3-5 days
Note: Result turnaround times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Patient Instructions: Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation.
Tests Included:
Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy: is also known as the "sunshine vitamin" because the body manufactures the vitamin after being exposed to sunshine. Ten to 15 minutes of sunshine 3 times weekly is enough to produce the body's requirement of vitamin D. Needed for strong bones and teeth, Vitamin D helps your body absorb the amount of calcium it needs. It also has other roles in the body, including modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. There are associations between low Vitamin D levels and peripheral vascular disease, certain cancers, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's disease.
Vitamin B12: Essential component in making red blood cells, and is important for nerve cell function. Deficiency can lead to different forms of anemia, as well as impaired liver and kidney function.
Folic Acid (Folate): Also known as Vitamin B9, this test aids in the diagnosis of central nervous system disorders and anemia. This important nutrient also plays a significant role in making red blood cells, making DNA, energy level, muscle strength and memory.
