Description: This non-invasive test evaluates cortisol, melatonin, and progesterone levels through three saliva samples—collected late at night, during the night, and early in the morning. Sleep disruptions often have hormonal roots. By measuring melatonin, cortisol, and progesterone across three precise timepoints, this simple, at-home saliva assessment helps identify where, and why your sleep patterns go off-track.
Ideal patients include those experiencing: • Insomnia and trouble staying asleep • Fatigue and low daytime energy • Anxiety and mood disturbances • Menopausal or perimenopausal sleep difficulties • Stress-related sleep problems Each report provides a clear Functional Imbalance Score with practical, targeted recommendations so you can implement a meaningful care plan immediately.
Includes:
- Melatonin is a hormone primarily produced by the pineal gland and plays a role in circadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles. Production is stimulated by darkness which promotes sleep. The highest secretion of melatonin happens between 2-4 am. Light exposure decreases melatonin production. Melatonin has many roles including free radical scavenging and stimulating antioxidant enzymes.
- Cortisol, free (reference ranges are for ages 18-65 years old) is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands in response to stress. Cortisol shows a strong diurnal rhythm peaking within the first hour after awakening, declining rapidly over the morning hours, and then tapering off over the rest of the day before reaching its lowest point at night. Cortisol affects sleep-wake cycles with higher levels promoting the body's wakefulness and alertness.
- Progesterone is a reproductive hormone made by males and females and has many roles in mood, cognition, neuroprotection, body temperature, and others. Both high and low progesterone can affect sleep quality.
